Mental Health Empowerment Project
Through a variety of peer support services, the Mental Health Empowerment Project (MHEP) helps people who have been given a psychiatric diagnosis. MHEP offers personal support for people with mental illnesses, provided by those with first-hand experiences. Help is available through everything from a peer support phone line, one-on-one peer support, advocacy services, and many non-traditional therapeutic opportunities such as a community drumming circle, meditation classes, even a monthly knitting gathering.
Listen to Angela Hebner, Director of Peer Support Services talk with Diane Donato about MHEP’s history, their approach and ways that people can both receive help and give help to others.
Peer support services are available through locations in Albany, Rensselaer and Westchester County.
