ACKNOWLEDGING BLACK HISTORY MONTH

FEBRUARY 1, 2024

ALBANY, NY: #BlackHistoryMonth is an opportunity for all Americans to delve into the profound contributions of Black individuals to the American experience. As allies, we have a solemn obligation to learn from the past – and, when asked – amplify and center the experiences of those who are working to set the narrative.

The American Dream remains elusive for Black Americans. Police brutality, vigilante violence, domestic terrorism, mass incarceration, institutionalization and state-sanctioned violence will continue until the systems and individuals responsible are held accountable. We cannot begin to dismantle barriers, address systemic oppression, and develop new policies until we acknowledge, understand and reckon with the structural racism that is so deeply woven into the American tapestry. None of us are free until all of us are free.
